X the Unknown.....

I Don't Believe Your Understanding of History is Complete

5,000+ Years of Human Civilization has been a continuous battle field.
Strong cultures and their warriors have dominated cities upon states upon
countries upon nations. The face of any landscape has changed hands many
times....throughout the world....because of religious, nationalistic,
political and ethical ambitions.

Bosnia, Kosovo and Miloschvic(sp?).....that is no different.

>>" It is my opinion that genocide or civil war within a country is
a choice for THAT country to make...."<<

Unfortunately...Leaders of Nations seem to agree with you and they
practice this feature of government on a regular basis.

However....there is a significant difference in 1999.
We get to watch it on Television.

This has created a moral imperitive not found in such abundance before TV.
I for one Thank God for some Nations who are willing to sasy NO and ask
their people to SAY NO. I For One Thank God there is an Americares.

If you wish to watch the slaughter....I suggest getting a BIGGER SCREEN.

Regards
Chip

You make some very good points there, including the one that we will most likely not be the world's "greatest power" forever, and if and when we do slide down the slippery slope as all "empires" eventually do, how will WE like it when "the shoe is on the other foot"?
Making foreign policy decisions is somewhat like chess, in that one must almost always think at least two or three different moves ahead, if not more. Yogi

The jews were decimated only 50 years ago because of short sited reasoning such as this. Now the muslims are being victimized! Why? Because it is easy to look the other way. Genocide is NEVER acceptable. NATO is finally acting responsibly. The Bosnian muslims were sacrificed for such short sightedness. These people were NOT extremists, they were very peaceful and tried to defend themselves with diplomacy. We let them down, as did the rest of europe. Now Milosovic has played his final trump and proved, very publicly, what the Bosnians tried to show us ten years ago. He will get destroyed for his crimes. Unfortunately, he will kill many innocents before then.
