Sega President Says Next Dreamcast Model to Feature DVD

April 1, 1999 (TOKYO) -- The next model of Sega Enterprises Ltd.'s Dreamcast game
machine will feature DVD technology, Sega president Shoichiro Irimajiri said in a
recent speech.

The speech was given at a general meeting of the Institute of Electronics, Information
and Communication Engineers held at Keio University's Hiyoshi Campus. Irimajiri's
speech was entitled, "Home information terminals and next-generation game
machines."

He commented on the PlayStation 2 recently announced by Sony Computer
Entertainment Inc.

"Because Sony decided to make game machines a core business, the public now
views game machines differently, and that has had a huge impact on the industry,"
Irimajiri said.

He said that Sony's new PlayStation 2 will probably be priced around 50,000 yen to
60,000 yen (120.03 yen = US$1) because the microchip used by the new machine will
be 2.5 times larger in size than the Dreamcast microchip.

Also, he said that the next-generation Dreamcast will adopt a DVD-ROM device, thus
hinting at a rivalry with the PlayStation 2.

Irimajiri said that Sega is considering the use of a hard disk drive as an external
storage device
as well as the Zip drive of Iomega Corp. of the United States.
