IMII, who remembers this one? news out again yesterday. Intelligent Medical Imaging, Inc. Announces New Product Sales to Jackson Memorial Hospital & Integrated Regional Labs PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 1999-- Sales Ultimately Will Result in Company Successfully Linking With Each of the Major Hematology Analyzer Manufacturers - Abbott, Bayer & Beckman-Coulter Intelligent Medical Imaging, Inc. (Nasdaq:IMII) today announced that it has recently received two new purchase orders from University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center and Canadian-based Integrated Regional Laboratories (IRL), an affiliate of Columbia HCA Healthcare Corp. (NYSE:COL). Jackson Memorial purchased the Company's automated blood slide maker, the HSM, which ultimately will be linked to the medical center's hematology analyzer manufactured by Bayer Corp. The University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center has been honored as one of the top 25 medical centers in the nation according to the publication, The Best in Medicine. This national reputation for excellence was reconfirmed when Jackson Memorial Hospital was named among the nation's top hospitals in The Best Hospitals in America. Taking advantage of the Company's new "Consumable-Rental Program," IRL acquired IMII's newly introduced CoreLab System, which combines both the HSM and MICRO21 System - an intelligent automated microscopic system - into one operating unit. It is expected that the CoreLab System at IRL will be linked with an Abbott Laboratories-produced hematology analyzer. This linkage with the Abbott unit will result in the Company having linked with each of the hematology analyzers produced by the leading industry manufacturers -- Abbott (NYSE:ABT), Bayer and Beckman-Coulter (NYSE:BEC), which collectively represent 90% of the hematology analyzer market. In association with Columbia HCA, IRL owns and operates numerous major reference lab groups in Canada and is in the process of establishing several within the United States. About the Corelab System The Corelab System, which has several HSM and MICRO21 configurations, retails for $125,000 to $215,000. Labs with limited capital budgets can acquire a Corelab System through a "Consumable-Rental Program." Under this Program, a volume dependent premium is added to the $.050 per slide consumable cost to cover the rental of the HSM and MICRO21, which qualifies as an operating expense. The total cost per slide will range between $0.75 for high volume labs and $1.75 for low volume labs, in contrast to a cost of $3.50-$4.50 to prepare and review a blood slide manually. Intelligent Medical Imaging, Inc. (IMII) is the premier designer and manufacturer of intelligent automated microscopic systems. The Company developed and globally markets the MICRO21 System, an intelligent, automated microscope system; the HSM, an automated blood slide maker; and the USM(tm), an automated urine slide maker for diagnostic use in hospitals, commercial reference, physician group practice laboratories and pharmaceutical and veterinary laboratories. IMII's systems are currently in operation at some of the world's most prestigious medical teaching and healthcare institutions including Emory University, Vanderbilt University, Cleveland Clinic, Beth Israel, University of Illinois, Walter Reed Memorial Hospital, Bethesda Naval Medical College, and Cedar Sinai. Partnering with healthcare giant Beckman-Coulter (NYSE:BEC) and global pharmaceutical leader Bayer Corporation via global distribution and/or licensing agreements, IMII is engaged in marketing its products in the United States, Europe, Japan, Israel and Korea.
