The ACLU is admittedly not my kind of libertarian outfit. They have betrayed me on the Second Amendment. They are pointedly silent on the continuing infringement of the right ot own, carry and bequeath firearms. As such I wonder if they've bought into the overarching neo-liberal argument that guns are bad for Our Childern.

CTC, I like that idea. It could fly. <<I don't think it's that difficult. You put people to work and at the same time provide them with marketable skills. Either the work exists in the private sector and requires government subsidies (no one can subsist on a minimum wage), or it exists through government job creation. I envision these efforts as safety nets, not entitlements.>> One high motivation against the system we have now is not the 25 million Micky Mouse, but the folk who work 2 and 3 [5 counting spouses] jobs to support 2 or 3 kids in a lower class style. The lack of opportunity and the innoculation of anti-social habits is inevitable, obvious, and infuriating. [Of course, we could just excise the laziness gene--right, LRR ;) ]

Libertarian simplicity is appealing. To the unconverted, though, it only addresses some values and social interactions. I wonder if our entire civil and maybe criminal law could be reduced to the simplicity of economic contract. One crime: he did me wrong. Judge and jury figure out if so, and how, and by how much, and the circumstances and the consequence. Wouldn't we depend on having community then!
