You need and uptick to sell short, if it keeps on going down you can not sell it short, your broker will need to wait until they can do the trade based off those rules. I think you have a pretty good understanding based off your questions. Here is a good resource for short selling beartracker.com note for some reason Internet Exploreer does a better job handling this site than does my Netscape
