> 1) I assume Seattle is in US West Territory (sorry folks, I don't live out there so please excuse the ignorance), thus US West is the RBOC. If that is the case, then is it likely that the main goal of US West (and other RBOCs) is to lease out their network to ISPs so that the ISPs can provide the DSL Service under their private label, with the RBOC merely being the owner of the broadband pipe? Or is it likely that US West themself will want to offer ISP service under their own brand name (much like AT&T World Net) in which case they will be competing with ISPs that they lease space to on their own network??? Actually, both GTE and USWest service Seattle. I don't know which of them is involved with the trial. That's somewhat irrelevant to the question, though. Every RBOC I'm aware of that is selling DSL sells it in two pieces - the DSL pipe to the home and the ISP services. I'm paying $60/month to GTE for 384K of bandwidth in both directions, then I write a separate check to my ISP. In my particular case I had a choice of approximately 10 ISPs to choose from, including gte.net. If I'd been across the road in USWest territory I would've had similar choices, including uswest.net as my ISP. > 2) Can multiple ISPs offer different DSL service to the same Home over the single last mile twisted pair wire that feeds that Home??? I think I answered that one above :). Depending on a number of issues, the ISPs will either colocate equipment at the CO or run high-speed connections from the CO to their location. > 3) How much infrastructure will MSFT have to put in place, either at the CO or elsewhere, in order to provide DSL service? Or will MSFT essentially rent/outsource time and use on other existing ISP equipment or the equipment of the RBOC? Probably none. MSN today is run on equipment leased from UUNet. I would suspect that DSL would be similarly outsourced (although whether or not it's UUNet I have no idea). Hope this helps - feel free to throw out more questions if you've got 'em. - Eric
