Xiao- Have you considered that it would be easier to educate 2,000
developers to make safer products then 2 billion users how to use
products that were not safe.
I think that when this is all over the government will step in
to legislate safer products as they did to the automobile in
60's. I can just see Bill Gates telling the Senate hearings
on Computer Program Safety what a bunch of idiots they and the public
were for not using the products properly.

"As a State Department Network Administrator, I watched with great interest the development of "Melissa" over the weekend and was fully prepared for the hailstorm of panic that awaited me on monday from most users. As always, simple, pure inteligence and wit has been the best defense. We did some routine scans on a updated network version of Nortons, found nothing, sent out a quick reminder to "not enable macro's" and that's it. We have had zero incidents within the facility of about 3500 users on a exchange server.

What's truly amazing is the lack of prevention that was in place at some of the most respected bastions of technology. The most recent Norton update of 2 weeks ago will aquire and clean "melissa" (to my knowledge). Anyone with a firewall should have the mindset of sitting at a bunker waiting for the attack. Always grab the freshest ammo when you can. "

You see what I mean.
