The easy money ahs been made, but this oil bull still is very young and should go quite a bit higher before it is over.

But the now ancient bull in the overall market is looking very tired. Yesterday, when the Dow finally closed over 10,000, there were less than 50 new highs and about 90 new lows. Huge divergences between the top tier and the rest of the market portend a severe drop by fall IMHO.

The big bull move now underway in oil raises more questions about the overall market. Bull moves in oil typically occur very late in the market cycle. And sharply higher oil prices together with very tight labor markets in many places greatly increase the odds that the Fed will tighten in the second half.

UFAB BUY ORDERS - “By Appointment Only”

The following two messages highlight the contradiction by the analysts who follow Unifab.

Jim L. is bullish short term; but, skeptical long term and Big Bull says “I'll see you at the top”.

SargeK - Why do the estimates on UFAB's earnings for next year differ so greatly. One estimate is for 1.40 and the other is for 2.50. Yahoo averages the two and walla 1.90. I'm somewhat skeptical of the high number. Short term UFAB has lots of upside. I'm just trying to determine if it's a quality issue long term. Can't decide if I want to trade it or hold it.”

Sarge, I just snagged some UFAB. They hit my limit order. A small position to start, only 1k. This thing trades by appointment only! Trying to average in at some "decent" prices here.
I'll see ya at the top. “

One analyst has forecast FY/00 (beginning 4/1/99) earnings @ $1.40 the other @ $2.50 (Concensus $1.95). Earnings for FY/98 was $1.28. Consensus earnings for FY/99 (ending today) is $1.35; however, these same analysts expect 4Q/99 earnings (concensus) of $.30. Herein lies another contradiction. If the $.30 is correct, then FY/99 Will be $1.41 (since earnings for the first 3 quarters total $1.11). If the latter number is true, then UFAB had an earnings growth of 9.2% during a ‘bad' year. The concensus earnings forecast of $1.95(FY/00), under market conditions - now developing, is becoming more likely than the $1.50 previously postulated by me.

UFAB can grow significantly with further development of existing facilities. They can almost double production by utilizing the full capacity of covered facilities in N. Iberia and the port facility at L. Charles (with deepwater GOM access) is being developed as I write. With the synergies manifest in recent acquisitions the Company is developing the capabilities to convert barges and ships into FPSOs in their own shipyard. For a company this size, the prospects are awesome. Mr. Berard/CEO has repeatedly stated he is pursuing further acquisitions and will use both earnings generated cash and the issuance of stock in that effort (apparently averse to long term debt). He is a highly respected businessman in Louisiana and serves by appointment of the Governor on a commission to find ways to upgrade skill levels of the States workforce.

The bottom line is Big Bull and JimL are both right IMO. Personally, I am in this one long term not wishing to chance giving up a Grand Slam for a couple of singles. Because of MM control and small float, this issue is not IMO a good candidate for day traders. FWIW
