SIDEBAR: NetWare 5.0 Superior By Design

In a large network environment, providing file and print services is a matter of
management and accessibility, and not all the players tested are equal in these
categories. Novell's NetWare 5.0, with its Novell Directory Services, is
clearly the superior product.

For large, heterogeneous networks, NDS provides an unbeatable combination
of manageability, maturity, granularity and accessibility. Just factor in
NetWare's overall power, scalability, stability and ease of installation and it's
easy to see why it's the NOS of choice for many IT managers.

All of the products tested here can be a good solution depending on your
enterprise network's unique needs. Since this is a comparative review,
however, we must give our nod to the one product that shined brightest. Our
InternetWeek Approved award goes to Novell's NetWare 5.0.
