Brown: think that they will only open an acct with a check. Could be a few days lag till is open, but they are pretty good. You also could transfer securities into the brown acct from present acct, either by full transfer (initiated by brown) or by DTC letter, also initiated by Brown. DTC is stock specific, rather than whole acct, and is usually faster. Brown does send confirms via us mail. I need to get a new file cabinet to hold mine. ggg If their website is down, you can do phone orders, I think phone orders are $12 for mkt, 17 limit, unless the website is down, in which case they will give you the web price. but if the website is down, you will have a wait to get thru on phone. i have not had any trouble with their website for quite a while now, and i have found their phone reps to be helpful and courteous when i did need to talk with them. go get 'em girl. $5 trading is great (helps if the stock goes the right way). larry
