Amazon really opened up the Pandora Box. If it can't make a dent on eBay, it will jeopardize its books and CD business. AMZN has to win this battle within very short period of time (just see how much has been presented on its debut); otherwise, they can't justify those negative earnings for too long. The battle will heat up very soon, and it will be interesting to see how eBay is going to fight it - maybe attacking AMZN's core business by joint forces.

Don't make yourselves believe the pie is big enough for two or more players - the market share will probably be sharable, but not the stock prices.

I think we can count on a continued weakening in the stock price unless EBAY figures out how to restart the auction count growth.

Sure stock prices can be hit and sliced. I don't own eBay though I have in the past. (I missed most of the big run since October. Owned it 86 to 126 and 205 to 220.)

And the Big Houses who have devoured shares of AOL and Yahoo while avoiding eBay may be smiling now.

However, I seriously doubt eBay's management team is so lacking in creative ideas that they will not be able to step up to this challenge.

Competition breeds excellence. It will be an interesting year for eBay, far more than I had anticipated.
