Microsoft was somewhere in-between: the company said its servers had no trouble handling the email load, but it switched off outgoing email because it didn't want to spread the virus further.

I think the part about the GUID is all BS. Uniqueness right now is
based on the BIOS ID of a LAN Adapter with a market value
of $5. which can be easily dumped. The real intention of
GUID is to work in conjunction with Intel's P-III chip ID.
It's going to be harder to dump a $500 CPU.

The whole ID/Security matter is going to end up in hearings
in the hallowed halls of Congress with Legislation following.
I think by now Corporate management is begining to question
the risks involved with their IT managers choices.

P.S. I was amused that this all began with a post to alt.sex.
I thought all softies just used the Internet to check their
stock prices. Must be some natural instinct that can't be
erased even working in Redmond. Good design God.
