OS is getting less important from a software perspective. I believe the critical thing for these mobile systems to support is Internet browser (http) and Java technologies. This will happen regardless of the platforms. Most of these systems will be thin client systems. Critical areas will be Screen Quality, Battery Life, Memory and Quality of Data Connections. The systems that do these things will win. I write Java applications for a living. The programs I write are write once run anywhere with very few exceptions. Of course a full Java VM would have difficulty running on the memory modules of alot of these systems. Browsers that support HTML are more available and I run one on my palm pilot now.
