I ask that the ACLU defend all ten amendments, not merely the cute&fuzzy ones, with equal zeal. The text of the Second is straightforward. I am not interested in whether it is a human right - that is not part of the argument. In this nation we have the Second - which guarantees to the "people" - and that means you&me - certain rights. This is along with the 4th the most besieged article in the Bill of Rights, and I find the ACLU's response sorely wanting. They'll have to clean up&fly right if they want my hard-earned cash.

nihil,
<<No one but the U.S. defines the right to keep and bear arms (the
legal meaning of which is subject to dispute -- but not to the Supreme Court) as a
human right. >>

The "founding father's" who penned the 2nd amendment clearly from their writings say that the reason for being armed was for defense against foreign invasion AND domestic tyranny. They understood that when the government they were creating became tyrannical that it should be resisted with force of arms. But they of course did not envision anything more powerful than a cannon. Now we have a tyrannical (arguably) government but no hope of resisting by force and overthrowing it any longer. Get out and vote but we need new parties, new candidates.
