Earlie,

finally had to go shopping for a PC system myself, both on line and off.

Comparing the big 4, DELL and GTW on line, CPQ and HWP at Comp USA at Fry's, DELL is the winner by a huge margin, over 20% cheaper than the nearest competitor, why? IBM looks like they are ready to exit the PC market, displaying only a few Aptiva with AMD chips, no PII nor PIIIs.

HWP pavillion boxes piled sky high at both Comp USA and Fry's. Can't find anyone to help me at CompUSA and Fry's salesman just want me to buy the top of the line HWP PIII 500mhz with read write CD and DVD and ZIP and bells and whistle for $2500, no monitor. I can buy same at DELL without ZIP and DVD and read write CD for about $1650.

Based on this informal survey, I would say HWP looks most channel stuffed with CPQ a close second. If HWP is not confused by the upcoming split, it could be a great short.

Just my 2 cents.
