Liberty Media again--reducing web congestion
Liberty Invests in Video
Streamer

San Francisco -- Liberty Media Group's Liberty
Digital division said Tuesday that it has invested in
iBEAM Broadcasting Corp., which plans to
stream audio and video over the Internet.

Liberty Digital's investment -- part of a $13 million
funding infusion that also included existing
iBEAM investors -- was its second in as many
weeks.
On March 24, Liberty said it was among a group
of companies investing $28 million in Interactive
Pictures Corp., a San Jose, Calif.-based firm that
claims to be the "world leader in photography for
the Internet."

Other Interactive Pictures investors include GE
Equity, American Express Co., Travel Related
Services Inc. and Motorola Inc.

Liberty Digital is headed by Lee Masters, the
former E! Entertainment Television president,
who became the investment vehicle's president
and CEO last fall.

Founded last year, iBEAM is building a
satellite-based network for large-scale distribution
of audio and video over via the Web, bypassing
the network congestion that usually inhibits such
Webcasts.

In other news, iBEAM named Peter Desnoes --
the founder, managing general partner and CEO
of Burnham Broadcasting Co. -- as its CEO.

Desnoes also was vice president of sales and
marketing for the ABC Television Stations
division and chairman of ABC's affiliates-advisory
board.
