Zeev and thread,
I just got off of the phone with Nigel Bruce, the President of FunPhone. Dick sent me his home phone number as Mr. Bruce had some personal issues that he was dealing with.

Apparently the FunPhone can work with either monochrome or color monitors, though they don't officially support monochrome monitor functionality because of the quality issues. The voices waves are in a frequency range of 300Hz to 3.3Khz and they get the increased voice quality with a true RGB monitor because each color frequency is able to do a double sample of the analog waveform at different points on the wave. Going back to the Nyquist thereom that Bill Ulrich mentioned in one of his posts, this means that they are getting 3 times the sampling rate of normal compressed voice while still maintaining the low bandwidth requirements. (I may have gotten some of the details wrong, but this is the jist of the technology).

He had to cut the call short, but he asked that I call him at home again later today to talk about the Quality of Service issues that I brought up.
