About our encoding equipment

This stuff sure isn't cheap.

Visible Light uses Vela Research Centaur MPEG encoding systems. These are high-end Sun Sparc systems with component level and D1 inputs. Based around 14 C-Cube RISC processors, the output is extremely high quality. Variable Bit Rate (VBR) MPEG-2 encoding is supported, as well as standard MPEG-1 and MPEG-2. Audio processing is remarkably accurate. You'll love the quality.

This seems a bit dated. I wonder if they've upgraded their equipments since.
The Fourteen chip solution became 7 chips early 1997 ( c-cube.com ) and have since been superceded by the DVXplore solutions.

The Matsushita Group is working towards mass production of DVD and digital television technology and will consolidate its memory and microcomputer businesses in the subsidiary's new "system LSI" division, which takes form April 1. The entity will specialize in the circuitry for digital home electronics. In tandem with its new function, Matsushita Electronics is pulling out of manufacture of ordinary DRAM, an area that has slumped recently.
