Maybe this had some effect:

"One stock burning up the track this month has been RCN Corp., a Princeton, New Jersey, company that provides fiber-optics networks for telecommunications. The stock leapt from $24 at the end of February to $37.38 as of Friday, March 26, a gain of 56 percent. It has more than doubled this year.

Fiber-optics is a very hot area now, but investors jumping in at this stage run a danger of a meltdown. I think the enthusiasm has gotten excessive, and RCN is a case in point."

Perhaps the answer to the price drop is the cable deregulation that takes effect soon. This might affect profits for RCNC somehow.
