Bruce,

Yes, indeed...this is very cool technology - I think however this is different then the legacy systems Home Depot is using vis a vis the DEFINITY PBX products. Isnt' it?

The key going forward (IMO) will be deploying new features such as unified messaging and collaborative computing and the ability to reduce the cost of moves and adds..all things that the IP world does really well since writing applications on top of these OS's is trivial compared to existing PBX technology and since there are so many software developers providing innovative ideas and technology. It's really not enough to throw an IP interface on PBX and consider this to be data/voice/internet ready. What really needs to happen to get folks moving to converged environments is the creation of new applications...quickly..in easier to manage environments then is currently offered on yesterday's PBX's.

Also, the ability to bring the data and telephony device together into a single easy to use platform capabale of interacting (between data, voice, and video) - like "push to talk" is not something that yesterdays' PBX's are capable of providing. Fundamentally the DEFINITY (and other older) PBX is to expensive, to difficult to support, to costly to support, and will therefore give way to newer, better, faster, cheaper, converged data/voice communications equipment which are easy to manage, upgrade, and use.
