The degree of SUN MICROSYSTEMS INC's involvement in the recent AMERICA ONLINE INC stock deal with Netscape Communications Corp. could affect the way AOL is allowed to account for the transaction, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday. If regulators conclude that Sun effectively bought Netscape's corporate-software business, AOL could be required to account for the deal differently, the newspaper said. It could incur as much as $9.7 bln in "goodwill" charges against earnings over a number of years, the newspaper reported.
