Force of habit, and perhaps some ambivalence on my part. I was baptized when I was 12, after my parents had been divorced for a couple of years. I didn't believe much, but I liked some of it. In college, I went back to being religiously Jewish for a couple of years, then got confused, and after college spent a few years as a believing Catholic. Now, although I still believe in God, I am not sure about specific doctrines. Anyway, Catholics call people like me lapsed, in the hopes that we will someday begin practicing again, and most non- practicing Catholics tend to use the term.
