Agree with most of what you said but,

Service is where LU and the other legacy PBX manufacturers make their big bucks. In three years - you watch - these guys will be GIVING away the iron simply to get the service contracts.

As for evolution. Hey, better to evolve than not. ;) The beauty of tomorrows open systems are that you can always load a new app...and it doesn't have to be from the "iron-provider", it can even be home grown...given open API's. So, obsolence is really not a big issue here. We're not talking 400Mhz PC's or Pentium II's, we're talking about next generation networking. It's my belief that it makes no sense to buy a circuit switch any longer.. unless you just can't stomach the wait.

Oh, earlier comment about CSCO deploying..was correct. What better place to alpha than your own network. However, it seems to me that before you alpha in a 20,000 person campus that you must have some confidence in smaller shops. Seems to me Cisco must be deploying something now or very soon that scales at least to small 100-500 person businesses. You don't go from nothing to 20,000 in one shot.
