I smell something rotten in Denmark on CYOE: Class 4 ESS (Electronic Switching System) is a Lucent Product, which is not even used any longer for Tandem with the IXC (Inter-Exchange Carrier to ATT, MCI from an RBOC). Class 5 ESS Switch - Lucent Product, added to Central Office as needed; NYC ~ 200,000 Line 5 ESS & Chicago ~180,000 Line, added in 10,000 Line increments. Class 5 DMS 500 Switch - Northern Telecom Newbridge does not make voice switches, just data switches. My people laughed when asked could Coyote be developing their own Class 4/5 Switches. Coyote claims there switch is Class 5 DSS. Nobody knows what the hell that means. We think it means they take old 4/5 Class ESS's and 4/5 Class DMS's and add Newbridge equipment and that makes them Coyote 4/5 Class DSS. Especially since they state that they can use the Coyote Carrier IP Gateway scaled to match the capacity of your Class 4/5 switch.
