You can call it chumminess....perhaps even incest.

It is nice to be back, during my nine month absence, there has been some important alliances, that will define this sector for years to come.

The announcement to partner with ITXC is not a new one. I remember reading about this in the mid 1998.

Like everything else in this sector, solutions arrive one packet at a time. It may however be the time to start defining the front-runners and the solutions they bring to the marketplace. In doing so, we must not overlook the iNOW! interoperability initiatives, introduced by Lucent. "iNOW! is a standards-based, multi-vendor initiative established to quickly provide interoperability among IP telephony platforms."

Many vendors have voiced (no pun intended) their support for iNOW! including Alcatel, Analogic, AudioCodes, Ascend, Cisco, Clarent, Dialogic, Ericsson, Linkon, Natural MicroSystems NetSpeak, OzEmail Interline and Siemens. Far from being a standard, the acceptance of these initiatives, may be the only way to for these smaller players to survive in an industry that will be dominated by companies like AT&T.

ITXC, received its initial seed funding from telephony giant AT&T and VocalTec Communications. It is currently funded by Venture Capital money from Intel, Chase Capital, Flatiron, VocalTec, Polaris, and Spectrum Equity.

Lets not forget Lucents PacketStar Internet Telephony Server (ITS), that when packaged with GRICprepaid and VoIP billing system by Mind CTI offers a solution that may be hard to beat.
