WURST CASE SCENARIO RESULTS IN 5-KM-LONG SAUSAGE

Laasdorf, Germany (dpa) - It was a wurst case scenario for people
in this hamlet in eastern Germany who grilled a 5-kilometre-long
sausage over the four-day Easter holiday in a bid to get a mention in
the Guinness Book of Records for the world's longest bratwurst.
And for 15,000 people it represented their 15 minutes of fame as
camera crews from throughout Germany recorded their long and sinuous
culinary creation for posterity - before it was cut up into 15,000
serving portions.
It took 20 cooks to grill the sausage - an elongated version of the
region's traditional Thuringian-style bratwurst - made from 40 hogs.
Proceeds from the event, held in conjunction with an Easter weekend
town fair, were donated to a children's charity.
Laasdorf town officials said Monday they had staged the event to
upstage bratty neighbours in nearby Erfurt who hitherto held the
Guinness record with a bratwurst 4.7 kilometres long.
