I have a new box with win98 preinstalled on a C: fat32 partition. I want to dual boot this box to test it under NT and and wondering as I write this, if there is a way to do it how I want without a reinstall of 98.

I have done many dual boots, but always with a new drive, planning on a dual boot from the begining. I prefer a small (500 meg) c: FAT16 primary and then a fat32 WIN98 partition and then a NTFS NT partition. For this simple boot I have usually used the NT boot menu, Win98 is NT aware and they usually both install and co-mingle fine.

I want to end up this same way on this new box, but without a 98 reinstall. I can use PM to size and create the partitions, but then win98 will be in a fat 32 logical partition within the extended partition and probably won't boot. Any Ideas?

As I think about it, it may be just quicker to startup PM and wipe the disk out and reinstall everything from scratch, partitioned how I want from the start. I usually do better starting with a clean slate. :)

Opinions appreciated

Dan

I was told this b y someone who went through this same problem. Reliable, I think so. I just took it in to have the drive reformated if they cant diagnose and fix the drive. I think it was just a bad spot and they may be able to bypass it for me. This way I wont have to lose anything I hope. If they can't then I will have to start over. At this point I am hoping the drive is not toast. I will know in the morning. One last word of advice to all, BACK UP YOUR FILES OFTEN. I did not :-(
Thanks for the help. Never knew the thread was here. I will be back. MarkC.
