Poll: IT Outsourcing Shows No Signs Of Slowing

(03/31/99, 4:25 p.m. ET)
By Kevin Merrill, from CRN Enterprise Partner,

Nearly every company surveyed in a new poll said it increased spending on IT outsourcing last year, with the same number expecting to increase spending this year, according to a survey released by The Corbett Group.

Nearly 97 percent of respondents, 200-plus executives from enterprise businesses, said spending on outsourcing increased, and many now expect that spending to increase 25 percent or more this year. The survey results were released this week and are based on an automated audience-response poll conducted at the 1999 Outsourcing World Summit.

The Corbett Group is part of Michael F. Corbett & Associates, an outsourcing research and consulting company based in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

The survey also found nearly 78 percent of executives said business-process outsourcing is an increasingly important management tool, with the large majority, 92 percent, correlating business-process outsourcing with increased shareholder value.

Sixty percent of those polled were satisfied with the results of their outsourcing initiatives, with financial benefits (42 percent) the most important factor driving the trend.

Outsourcing is increasingly being used as a long-term strategic tool to help companies focus on their core competencies, said Scott Lever, vice president of research at the research company.

Walcalla, good luck getting out of CPQ. They can't even time the spin off of Alta Vista during the height of internet mania. What a bunch of lost souls they are.
