SW: XYBR (core INDEX): Xybernaut(R) Launches Partnership Program; Co-Marketing Initiatives Designed to Further Grow Customer Base
FAIRFAX, Va., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Xybernaut Corporation (Nasdaq: XYBR) today announced the launch of the Team Xybernaut Partnership Program. In keeping with its Corporate strategy to align itself with forward-thinking organizations, Xybernaut today outlined its plans for formalizing its relationships. Specifically, Xybernaut will be writing co-marketing agreements with independent software vendors, and system integrators, and will be writing reseller agreements with distributors, value-added resellers, resellers and computer hardware vendors. Previously, Xybernaut announced its relationship with Hewlett-Packard Company (September 8,1998) and En Pointe Technologies, Inc. (May 21, 1998), allowing it to serve both the European and US markets with local representation. This program expands that initiative by offering its partners a formal plan for resale and co-marketing activities, such as joint sales calls, shared trade show activities and reciprocal inclusion in corporate literature.
Ed Newman, President and CEO commented, "The Partnership program is one of the first steps in a new, comprehensive marketing strategy that is tailored toward our recent launch of the Mobile Assistant IV(R), our latest generation of wearable computers. Using the expertise of our partners in those vertical industries for which the Mobile Assistant is particularly well suited, will help us better serve the needs of customers."
David Schweppe, Vice President of Marketing added, "We have long known that this is the best way to introduce an exciting new product such as the Mobile Assistant into places where computers have never been used before. We are teaming with companies that are intimately familiar with our customers' needs and can help us create solutions that take advantage of the power, mobility and freedom that the Mobile Assistant allows. In future months, we will announce more relationships with partners who can help us continue to help our customers achieve the tremendous productivity gains possible with the Mobile Assistant."
Maurizio Gasperi, Business Development Manager at HP's Complementary Products Division in Europe said, "Since teaming with Xybernaut last September, we have offered this outstanding new technology to a variety of vertical-market customers and to leading HP partners. The Mobile Assistant(R) IV has allowed us to open new dimensions in our product offerings."
Kevin Schatzle, Executive Vice President of En Pointe Technologies stated, "Our relationship with Xybernaut has opened up opportunities in the computer market not previously available to En Pointe. In return, we've effectively expanded Xybernaut's Sales force, crafting deals and getting information out on the cost and productivity savings of Xybernaut's wearable computer solution, the MA IV(TM)."
The MA IV began shipping to customers in December 1998. It consists of a belt-worn computer, a color VGA head-mounted display suspended in front of either eye with microphone and earphone, an optional wrist-mounted flat panel touch screen color display or keyboard, a battery pack, and integrated voice-recognition software. Xybernaut's current customers include leading Fortune 500 companies and government organizations for many mobile knowledge delivery system applications including maintenance and repair, diagnosis, inspection, inventory control, manufacturing and data collection. With base pricing below $5,000, the market for wearable PCs is now attractive to for applications where computers have never been used before and to those organizations seeking to leverage the productivity aspects of wearables not available in conventional computing.
