Hah, you're throwing just a few details at me, but that's obviously not the whole story. For one thing, which is faster to do-- disable a feature or modify it? disable is certainly faster, and Microsoft had an obligation to help Blue Mountain out as fast as possible. Second, what about the next Blue Mountain? By putting this feature in, Microsoft was preventing future greeting card companies from coming in. The judge essentially said that they don't have the right to do that. Issues like these are what Professor Laurence Lessig is an expert in, which is why Microsoft wanted him off the DOJ case.
