Zurich--Mar 31--The Swiss Finance Ministry said today the government was
submitting draft legislation to parliament that would allow a revaluation
of the country's gold reserves, once voters had approved the reform of the
federal constitution on Apr 18, which will lift the Swiss franc's peg to
gold. The bill, which still needs to go through parliament and is likely to
be put to the people in a referendum, would allow the Swiss National Bank
to sell 1,300 tonnes of its 2,600 tonnes in gold reserves.
However, this could only come into effect in spring 2000 at the earliest.
