Re: why do people like buying/selling stuff on Ebay? Well, I used to think about that. For example, I thought "Why would all these people spend so much time shopping for dinky, worthless antiques?" (sorry, no offense to antique lovers). But I just see Ebay as a worldwide marketplace for all kinds of "stuff". For example, why buy an expensive new book at AMZN bookstore if you find it cheap and used at Ebay? I've bought and sold a few used CD's cheaply. It doesn't have to stop there - look at one of their competitors - CityAuction.com I'm upset to see that CityAuction is far better than Ebay for regional auctions of high-margin items (cars, etc.). Right now, there's not enough online critical mass for that - like I wanted to sell my bass amp to anyone in atlanta, but the listings are still light in traffic. Anyway, Ebay should try to be the classified ads for any kind of item they can possibly be an intermediary for. Ebay's not just for silly collectibles with only sentimental value. PS- I love how Ebay makes the marketplace more efficient. I have a coin collection I don't want that I can now sell online for $1000 instead of getting fleeced by the local dealer who'll pay $300, mark it up to $700, and let it gather dust on the shelves until the coin store goes bankrupt (which most eventually do). - Netconductor.com >David R Stockwell wrote: Although I hold ebay stock I don't understand why people want to buy/sell stuff? especially buy. It must be a mind set cause for me it isn't really exciting to say I have the pen that Jimmy Carter used for signing the xxxx agreement back in 197x But apparently there are people who think this sort of thing is valuable.
