Your assesment all though sound is a bit narrow. Windows CE is considered a failure by all hardware manufactures and none of tier one manufacturers have made one dime off their CE devices. CE is another example of Microsoft stuffing sub standard technology down the throats of their partners using Windows as the OS. Microsoft is feverishly trying to dominant new markets such as cable internet access, interactive TV etc, etc. The problem they are running into is partner with major players on the cross over. Cable companies, satelite companies, content companies and the likes have all seen what MS has done in the Software market and are very leery of inviting them into their game. If you think MS will be as big a player in the next evolution of the industry your wrong. Have a look at IBM, their PC division hasn't been profitable for a while and even their server business is going flat, remember they were once the unbeatable Big Blue.

Regarding your remarks of bundling WP with a Happy Meal. It is not to far of the mark of what you will see software manufacturers become. Everything about the industry is becoming more of pop culture market. As technology becomes more integrated into mainstream culture I garuantee you will see free software subscriptions promotions being run with Coca Cola and the likes. FYI Microsoft already hawks their garbage MS Works, Money and Encarta on the back of General Mills Cereal boxes. By the way MS Works is still more than most Hardware manfacturers want to pay for an OEM product on the low-end. PC manufacturers also don't like trapping the customers into shelling a couple hundred dollars to get Word and file compatibility ( I am sure you are aware Works files are not compatible with any other MS products, how is that for a Ransom)

I really find amazing how many people side with winning team because they are the winning team. I guess this is where most creatures derive their security, sticking with the pack, never question the status qoue, and fight venhomenty anyone or anything who try to disturb the apple cart.

Anyone with clear in-sight into the industry knows that MS has spent millions of dollars to perpetuate the Windows dominance and in doing so set back technology a good ten years. What is amazing is with all the money MS has they haven't once during their reign produced an earth shattering product, it is because they don't have the know how or the desire. Hell they can't even put out decent versions of their mature products.

In the end the theory of evolution always prevails. The most efficient, strongest creature always evolves. One thing for sure MS is definately not a strong evolutionary candidate. Sometimes being at the bottom of the pile makes you hungrier, stronger and faster .....
