Object Design, Inc., Announces Preliminary First Quarter
Financial Results

Business Wire - April 01, 1999 17:40

BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 1, 1999--Object Design, Inc. (Nasdaq:ODIS) today
announced that it expects total revenues for the first quarter ended March 31, 1999, to be in the range
of $12.5 million to $13.0 million as compared to $13.0 million in revenue for the first quarter of 1998.
The company expects to show a net loss of between $0.07 and $0.08 per share in the quarter in
comparison to net income of $0.00 per share in the first quarter of 1998. These results are below the
company's expectations.

"I am not satisfied with our results this quarter," said Object Design President and CEO Justin
Perreault. "While we saw some market softness and delays in customer purchases, we also did not
implement our sales and marketing strategy effectively during the quarter. We believe that there
remains a positive market outlook for our ObjectStore database and we are taking steps to improve our
execution."

Perreault added that he was very pleased with the initial launch of Object Design's new eXcelon
eXtensible Markup Language (XML) data server during the quarter. "We believe that the successful
launch of eXcelon places us in a strong position to address new opportunities in the emerging XML
applications market," he said.

The company expects to announce actual results on April 15, 1999.
