So the alternative is that AMD goes belly up? This is a seemingly inevitable eventuality if they aren't considered a good takeover target.

THAT would move INTC!

Has anyone heard any rumors about AMD's imminent demise or digestion? If companies were looking at AMD as an acquisition, wouldn't the word be out?

I don't really follow AMD too closely, but I was surprised at their market cap. Actually, the 2 billion is relative pocket change to many firms out there in this market. AOL adds that much in 5 minutes <ggg>. Look at what the internet firms are going for. Hell, look at what LU paid for Ascend. The real problem is what are the dollars needed for future investment at AMD and for competing with Intel...
