ATM and SONET are Layer 1 (physical) and Layer 2 (datalink) protocols. TCP/IP is used as the Layer 3 (network) and layer 4 (transport) protocol on top of SONET and ATM right now....

In other words there is no such thing as a TCP/IP PIPE...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My brainy nephew the (almost) MSEE says that the future belongs to ATM and SONET which provides a bigger and more efficient pipe for data than TCP/IP
And to add to your comment:
"Today FCM finances that growth, directly and indirectly. "
The FNET IPO will pay off that debt to FCM and FCM's bottom line will improve!
Ken:
Thanks for the response. The Cringly article seems to offer a "ying-yang" to FCM, et al ... that is: "opportunity and competition"!
You apparently see the opportunity as being more advantageous to FCM at the present and the competition perhaps developing in the future!
I really like your enthusiasm for FCM's year end share price! Needless to say... I hope you are right on!
