ATM and SONET are Layer 1 (physical) and Layer 2 (datalink) protocols. TCP/IP is used as the Layer 3 (network) and layer 4 (transport) protocol on top of SONET and ATM right now.... In other words there is no such thing as a TCP/IP PIPE... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My brainy nephew the (almost) MSEE says that the future belongs to ATM and SONET which provides a bigger and more efficient pipe for data than TCP/IP
