In view of the problems with processing deposits, why are some people so anxious to have Datek do your checking?

The reality is, that having checking is very expensive for a broker. They don't get anything for it (other than customer goodwill and competitive standing), but have a huge cost for it.

We are paying $9.99 a trade. Datek does not sell order flow. Contrary to rumors, Datek does not trade against it's customers. Where is the money for checking supposed to come from?

I'd much rather have Datek concentrate on fixing the processing of deposits, than take on checking at this point in time.

In fact, I think it's more sensible to encourage Datek to come through with it's promise to provide us with options trading. Trading options would be a win-win situation. It gives customers a very important access to the market, and Datek makes money.

For the time being, I don't give a rat's a** about checking. Be careful what you wish for - it may come true<g>! Can you imagine the kind of posts on this board if checking snafus would pop up, left and right? No thanks.
