A "gap" is when a stock jumps up or down and there is a space in the chart. For example CY closes at $1 one day and the next day it opens at $1.20...it gapped up $0.20. This gap will usually be filled in at some point meaning the stock will come down again before it goes back up.
I use charts form my broker but you can get delayed charts at bigcharts.com or bigcharts.ca for Canadian stocks.
