The SEC says an increasing number of acquiring companies over the past few years have vaporized most of their acquisition deals' costs through a large initial charge. Thus, they have avoided repeated small earnings charges for goodwill

I gather the idea behind the big charge is to show a much larger growth rate in the next year. This would attract momemtum money to the stock? This would then cause the stock price to outstrip the SP500 and thereby trigger bonuses?
