e.spire Director George M. Middlemas Resigns Post to Devote
Time To Partnership

ANNAPOLIS JUNCTION, Md., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- e.spire Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: ESPI - news) today announced the
resignation of George M. Middlemas from its board of directors, effective March 31, 1999. Mr. Middlemas of Chicago-based Apex
Management Partnership has been a director of e.spire since 1993. He is stepping down now to devote more time to Apex, which is
preparing to launch its fourth venture fund.
