Re: why street "doesn't like" T right now--
Not sure the street has anything against T. It's just that this stock is not a high-flying volatile stock, so it's not always exciting. I listen to stock gurus on the radio all the time and they all like AT&T's CEO and the company's long-range prospects. Also, I am ever mindful of a local investment guru who tells his devotees the following:
"By the year 2008 or so, there are only going to be two phone companies in this world---one will be MCI-Worldcom and the other will be AT&T." Sounds possible, don't it???
Meanwhile, you're right that stock splits mean nothing in particular. But they do tend to make a stock rise right before the split. If you hold the stock thru the split, you have half your shares left to trade and half to hold long-term. I personally like my WCOM stock better than T, but at this price, I can get along with T for a while.
