scum bria - Re: " The K5 was AMD's second and last attempt to design an x86 CPU without the expertise of Nexgen."

Doesn't say much for the designers of those failed processors, does it ?

Scumbria - I think your argument boils down to two fundamental issues
1) This time they will be different. No screwups. No mask problems. No yield or bin split problems. Not exactly their history, but this time will be different.

2) Even assuming the worst, they have carved so valuable a niche in the marketplace that an angel will acquire them AT A STOCK PRICE PREMIUM should they screw up.

This combo makes you feel that this is a pretty safe speculation. And you might be right. I personally think that their assets will be acquired sooner or later, but I'm not sure that the purchase price will be wildly attractive to AMD stockholders. If it comes to that dire moment, my guess is that AMD will be in deep yogurt financially and in no great bargaining position. About the only thing I personally would bet on is that JS will emerge with ample rewards.
