wbm...re: dell/ibm....

trying to digest all articles concerning ibm and their mismanagement of pc business...believe ibm outsources assembly of finished goods now, with assembler paying ibm royalty for logo....this in itself is not a keen business plan for it allows for varying quality under same logo....much as the "french designers" do with clothing labels....i see no reason why dell would entertain a "royalty" concept, when they are gaining market share...to manufacture and private label for ibm units for retail inventory would also go against dell bto model...perhaps set up a separate facility for var inventory production??...but would that not expose dell to the same plight as ibm, cpq, hwp,et al in the low end market..for the production would be at times slow, if the channels are stuffed....

my hope is for ibm to exit pc market by attrition...allow their enterprise solution group to spec dell brand for their clients, allow dell to bto and ibm selling parts, solutions and service on a high quality product...and hopefully dell will say to hellto the taunts to enter a market that has about tanked all their competitors except gtw (who really isn't in the cheap end)....let the imports such as e-machines,acer,and the generic makers have the low margin business...for its not worth the bricks and mortar investment to set up production for a less than profitable product...any thoughts from the thread appreciated....ed a.
