***Y2K REPRIEVE***

The Association for Computing Machinery today announced that the fears of widespread computer malfunctions on 1/1/2000 are actually misplaced, and are a result of public misunderstanding of computer nomenclature. "The problem arose because, in the software business, the abbreviation K actually means 1024, or 2 to the 10th power, not 1000. Thus, 'Y2K' actually means the year 2048, giving the industry 48 more years to deal with the problem", said a spokesman.
