According to the AP the UCK/KLA are demanding that men from 18 to 50 report for service. "If the men refuse to join the KLA, the general staff warned that the military police will act even outside Kosovo". Its support comes from many quarters, and I wouldn't be surprised to find that US Special Forces have been assisting them for some time. If the cards fall right for them, other Moslem nations like Albania, Turkey, Chechnya, et al could come to their active aid. The French Press Agency has had some interesting coverage on this in the past couple of days. So, maybe some of the guys who weren't really that interested in the first place are taking advantage of the chaos to jam. Another item that Brokaw, Jennings, and Rather don't seem to want us to know about: the KLA has been posting notices in villages urging folks to head for the border and in some cases has been fairly violent in making them do so. Many people haven't thought about what could happen now that almost one million plus have been run out of Kosovo. The KLA will find funding and weapons from someone if not NATO a communist state. Then instead of a small well armed group they will be much stronger and harder to deal with. They will settle in other countries nearby and fight thier terriost wars across the borders. This is the real fear that Europe and NATO has is that the KLA will become stronger and will cause trouble in other countries and displace the minority populations in those countries. In other words if the KLA is driven out of Yugoslavia they will bring thier fight to other countries that can't handle it. What does NATO do? Arm them and let them fight the war? Fight the war now ourselves and hope that the Kosovors can be settled back in Kosovo?
