well of course. why search if it does not tell you where and what?

try the syntax or grammar I used and tell me what the result is.

you should find what your card and monitor specs are from the manufacturer. Cards are usually listed in the Config file though. Some cards are tricky. A lot use options or mine (Cirrus) won't work. For instance my Alpine card uses med_dram, no bit_blt and no mmio I believe. Without the options in the screen section of XF86Config, it will not work propertly. Cards can be a problem as X is far from perfect. When you think about it paying for a word processor, a commercial X driver and Ghostscript (Commercial Post Script Printer driver)about 300 dollars US ) it is better in the long run. I have long said that Linux is actrually no cheaper than NT is but it works better in general as a driver and crash free system.

Watch out with Netscape. It solves some pop3 mail problems in single user mode but it is a slow bloat fest. I used 4.5 as 4.7 was buggy as hell.

If the screen in X does not look sharp and clear when it first comes up, (after the grey screen with the X cursor) hit alt-backspace and get out. something is wrong.
