[aol/msft]

hi john,

orctf adsl will run as fast as 8 MB per second (under the right conditions)... as will just about all (non g.lite) modems from all standard dmt suppliers... also it's not clear msn is even using orctf at this point..

fwiw thought the phrase from the press release mentioning 30x:

"MSN(TM) Internet Access DSL provides consumers with Web access at speeds of up to 8 MB per second -- up to 275 times faster than today's 28.8 modem standard and up to thirty times faster than competitors' DSL offerings. .."

was a dig at aol and other isp's offering adsl but at slower speeds ... (rather than other equipment providers)..

from early aol adsl trials:

"..AOL members using xDSL technology can achieve transmission speeds as much as 25 times faster than a standard 28.8K modem..."
gte.com

believe the equipment being used by both aol and msn (at this point) would both be capable of 8MB per second (theoretically), but aol and others are choosing not to provide the bandwidth...

bye
