SAFETY HARBOR, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 1, 1999--WebNode.com today announced it
has have been granted an exclusive contract by the US Department of Energy (DOE) Office of
Science (formerly Office of Energy Research) to raise $4 billion in funding for the new
countrywide state-of-the-art fiber optic Next Generation Internet (NGI) to replace the existing
copper backbone.

Webnode.com's contract calls for it to sell 40 million nodes on the NGI to the general public.
Each node will carry an initial value of $100. Further details on how to purchase nodes is
available on the company's website at webnode.com. Further information on the

The NGI is being modeled after the $500 million Internet2 and Abilene projects that
successfully went live in February. Speeds for the NGI are expected to top 2.4 gigabits per
second, which is 85,000 times faster than a standard dial-up modem. Additional information
on these projects may be found at internet2.edu.
