JG,

CTIA does indeed say that there are now 71,162,843 U.S. Wireless subscribers today (including PCS or ESMR).

It is mind numbing. I've been watching these numbers for several years and I believe that this is just what it says. I also think that a subscriber equates essentially to a phone. Even though 2 phones (husband and wife) might be billed to a single bill I think they are looked at as separate subscriptions.

"Prepaid" service (becoming much more widespread does I think tilt the numbers (I think each prepaid account counts as .5 subscriptions) and an inactive prepaid account is kept on the books for a period of time (90 days??longer???) even if actually churned.

CDG reports 6,800,000 cdmaOne customers in NA and we know that number is growing rapidly.

Cahners In-Stat Group is projecting 95 million wireless subscriptions in the United States by year 2001 end.

This one, though, I REALLY can't figure out:

PCIA/Yankee Group Wireless Subscription Tracker shows 129,016,562 wireless subscriptions in the United States.
