Scumbria, Re: There was an article in EE Times(?) a few weeks ago saying that the Sony Playstation CPU could process more 3D triangles per second than Merced

Forgive my ignorance. What does it mean for processing more
3D triangles per second to a CPU ? I thought CPU is usually
by MFLOPS or something like that.

Oh my gosh. I guess this means Merced has lost the Nintendo design.

Link, please? I think you're getting a little confused, especially since no one, including yourself, knows any data on Merced performance.

Sony is claiming, however, that their upcoming Playstation 2 will be able to run games three times as fast as a Pentium III:

Of course, that statement is rather vague, considering that the Playstation 2 isn't going to be released until late 2000.

How many 3D Triangles did the Merced process per second ?

Were they single precision, double precision or extended precision calculations?

Did the Merced use EDO, SDRAM or RAMBUS memory?

Was the Merced running at 400 MHz or 433 MHz or 600 MHz?
